Offroad Trailer
Originally I had thought that we should be able to get a decent trailer for around $1500, ($1800 at the most). It’s initial role was a general household trailer as well as something to that we could use camping to carry all of our gear. After looking around a bit more this turned into $2500 for a super duper one that would last us a life time! I figured that if you are going to do something, do it properly.
I ended up going with South West Trailers in Mandurah. Out of all of the MANY trailer places I had looked into, they had the most reasonably priced and well fitted out trailers. I decided on getting their Base HD offroad trailers. One of my mates is a welder/fabricator so extras will be added later, and possibly I will learn how to weld in the process.
Offroad Trailer Specs
- 7 x 4
- 500mm deep with tread plate infills to mudguards
- All zinc anneal metal sheeting
- 50 x50 x 2.5mm chassis
- 100 x 50 x 3mm draw bar
- Wind down legs
- 45mm slim line axle
- Swing out rear tailgate
- Stock Jeep Rims (15×7) mounted with new Kumo AT Rubber plus Spare.
For $2500 you had to supply your own Rims and Tyres. No Problem I had Jeeps Rims I wanted to use anyway. $500 dollars later I had 3 brand new Kumo ATs mounted. When I organised to drop the tyres off they tell me that Hubs to match the Jeep Rims would cost an extra $88 (GST Incl). When I dropped the tyres off I find out that a Jockey wheel isn’t standard either so that’s another $77 (GST Incl).
We had a bit of a communication breakdown over the price. In all the email MOST prices got quoted INCL of GST. When I went to go pick it up I had a bit of a surprised as the final figure was 10% more than I thought it was going to be. When I reviewed all of the email I realised that the advert for the trailer I had chosen had a note at the bottom stating the usual (prices are all subject to GST).. DOH! Anyway needless to say Andrea was not impressed. Note for self – pay more attention to the fine details (can I put this one down to Baby Brain still?)
Cost Breakdown
- Base Trailer $2500 + $250 GST = $2750
- Tyres $500
- Jockey Wheel $77
- Hubs $88
- Total – $3415
